My first scarification piece by Anders - Photos.

Kaitie - 12-3-2008 at 01:13 AM

This piece was masterfully completed by Anders, The Piercing Guy at Dragon's Lair Tattoo in Marsden, QLD Australia. The quality of the work is absolutely amazing, and I couldn't be happier. Anders is a fantastic artist, and in general a fantastic person to be around. I plan to take a photo of my piece daily as it heals so that I can keep track of it, and I'll try to upload those pictures onto here as I go along, just because I would have found it interesting to see something like that before I had my work done. SO! I hope that you enjoy these photos, and another great big thanks to Anders for his awe-inspiring work!

Before....

Stencil...

Half outline....

Initial outlines....

Numbing gel....

A little deeper, now....

Anders, doing his thing...

First star, removed!

Second star, removed!

Third and final star removed, finished product!

GucciGurl - 12-3-2008 at 05:03 AM

anders is the man for scarification in my opinion.

thats beautiful it compliments your ink so nicely!

Kaitie - 12-3-2008 at 10:22 AM

Thanks! I'm rather a fan of it myself. I'll tell you what though... I'm on day two of the healing, and the pain while I'm cleaning it is almost unbearable. Right now, I'm SO thankful that I won't be irritating it.

Anyway, here's a photo from last night, day 1 of healing....

It's just some crappy shot taken with my phone, but you can see the piece, so that's all that matters.

it's fine on the work computer but at home on my lil old mac I be scrolling sideways a lot =(

Nice cutting though, excellent job by Anders as usual!

Kaitie - 12-3-2008 at 03:04 PM

Sorry guys, I'll be sure to resize the pictures as soon as I get home. Any one have any idea what size works best..?

640 x 480 pixels is a pretty universal standard.

Just as long as it's not any wider than about 700 pixels it'll be fine =)

Ah, awesome. Thanks!

sparksy - 12-3-2008 at 05:58 PM

Awesome. Hope it 'heals' up nicely.

I've been thinking about getting some knife work but until now have been a little cautious. I'll definatly be looking up the Marsden boys when I'm back down that way. My olds only live just around the corner.

I would love a Tattoo and Scarification project. Old album cover (zepplin etc) art with cut highlights.

Kaitie - 12-3-2008 at 06:02 PM

What is it that's held you back from the idea, Sparksy? And thanks for the well wishes, too. ^_^

vexhecubus - 12-3-2008 at 06:22 PM

as per usual anders did a top job on the removal.

but curious...those star tattoos, they weren't properly placed were they? Cuz with the center scar piece it looks like the star on your left, our right, appears closer to the scar piece then the other side...

That's right. Unfortunately the existing star tattoos were slightly out of line, so with the scarification piece we actually chose to simply line it up with my sternum and collarbones. Another reason that it seems so severe is that some of the pictures weren't taken head on, so it's bound to look a little wonky.

And just as a random question... You look like Warren from Vogue in Darwin, is that you, or am I totally wrong?

I wanted to wait till I was comfortable with the level of success that Aussie's were having with it. I've seen some great work done OS, but not much from local artists. Its still a new art form in my eyes. Seeing Anders work has me convinced that its time.

That and I'm a pussy when it comes to my own blood.

There is a LOT of excellent work going on overseas, and I was in the same boat as you. I've been interested in getting something done for quite a while, but wasn't comfortable with any of the artists I met. Luckily I made a new friend, who pointed me in Anders' direction, and the rest is history. Can I just say, that Anders is a FANTASTIC artist, and throughout the entire day he was constantly making sure that I was alright, and comfortable. If you're ever down this way, make sure to stop by and have a chat with him. Not only is he an excellent bodmod artist, he's also a very cool guy.

Pox - 12-3-2008 at 06:56 PM

Excellent, the quality of work Anders is producing at the moment is amazing. He's the hardest working guy I know and it's most definitely paying off. Hope you enjoy your new scar piece++

Kaitie - 12-3-2008 at 07:04 PM

Thanks a bunch, Pox. ;V

You're a tattoo artist, yes? I may need to come in and see you about a rather large piece I'm considering. I had someone in Melbourne who I was going to have do it, but as I'm in Brisneyland now, I'm going to have to find someone new!

Pox - 12-3-2008 at 07:07 PM

I might be moving to Melbourne soon, hahaha.

But for now I'm at Palace of Pain Tattoo (don't let the name scare you). Contact details are in my profile details on here, and a small folio is on my myspace.

Kaitie - 12-3-2008 at 07:11 PM

Bah! Everyone's moving about! Makes it difficult to get anything done. :P That's cool though, I shall check out your portfolio-ishness on MySpace. If you do go, how long are you looking at before you leave..?

Rini - 12-3-2008 at 10:36 PM

that looks lovely. Hope it heals up nicely :) will be good to see how someone else's heals up

wacky tattooist, I always find it odd when one puts a print on someone and doesn't check often for symmetry and proper alignment before actually tattooing...Guess it gives it a bit of "uniqueness" to it though.

yep I'm that dork of a person named Warren from Vogue in Darwin.

I actually had the stars done by Mim from DCT, just up the road from you guys. =P I'm pretty sure she was having an off day. I'm going to say that I hope so, anyway...

You pierced my eyebrow! And now it's rejecting, and that makes me sad. But hopefully it'll leave some scar tissue to anchor the next one behind, and as I should be back up in Darwin in April, you might get a visit from me!

vexhecubus - 13-3-2008 at 01:09 PM

definitely sad its rejecting, wish i could see it in person and perhaps troubleshoot to find the potential problem. The body she can be a strange mistress at times lol

Since I pierced you and if you do end up in Darwin in April, you best come visit...I always enjoy visits from people who are/have been my clients *nods*

yeah might have been an "off day" for Mim, normally she does consistent work...at least from what I've seen.

Kaitie - 13-3-2008 at 01:13 PM

Oh, of course I shall come visit, probably get you to re-pierce the wench of a thing, too! Lol. Mim is a fantastic tattooist, She's done all three of my tattoos, and a lot of work for friends of mine who I suggested her to, and she's done the rest of it beautifully, and everyone has their off days, so I can forgive her of hers.

Kaitie - 15-3-2008 at 10:44 PM

My god. It itches like mad! If there was skin there, I'd be scratching it! It's driving me nuts, and I've been hyperactive all day, looking for things to do to distract myself!
The last few days it's looked pretty much the same as the first day of healing, so I haven't bothered to take any pictures, but I'm about to go jump in the shower, so I'll be sure to take a picture of it when it's nice and clean lookin'. I'll post it either later tonight, or tomorrow at some point.

Hope everyone's having a wonderful weekend!

Rini - 15-3-2008 at 10:51 PM

haha oh the itching!!! it's so bad! i'm getting it too.

Kaitie - 15-3-2008 at 10:56 PM

Isn't it terrible? Lol. I can't see the latest picture you posted of yours, it's refusing to load for some godaweful reason. Mind linking me to the picture, Rini?

Rini - 15-3-2008 at 10:59 PM

sure thing. Check your U2U :)

Kaitie - 15-3-2008 at 11:08 PM

awesome, thankies

beans - 16-3-2008 at 10:52 AM

Any new pics yet Kaitie?

Kaitie - 18-3-2008 at 05:51 AM

No new pics just yet Beans.

This is, however, my second sleepless night due to the unbearable itching. It's driving me to insanity, and there's nothing I can do!

Kaitie - 18-3-2008 at 07:18 AM

I've had a couple of people telling me to do chamomile soaks. Is this safe for skin-removal scarification? The itching is driving me nuts and apparenty the chamomile will help with that, but I'd rather go insane from the itching and end up with a nice piece than reduce the annoyance and end up ruining my scars.

adman - 18-3-2008 at 04:17 PM

are you irritating your scar?

does anyone irritate scars anymore?

GucciGurl - 19-3-2008 at 06:07 AM

i irritated my cherry blossom.

i used peroxide lemon juice and a toothbrush. then i rubbed sesame oil into it about 3 days into the healing.

Kaitie - 20-3-2008 at 11:49 AM

I'm trying to -not- let my scar keloid too much, so no irritation is required, seeing as the chest area is already prone to keloid scarring, and most of my scars do anyway. The itching has FINALLY gone away! I've stop covering and I'm earning myself some nice scabs. SO! I'll be sure to take some pictures today, and will post them either tonight or tomorrow.

Kaitie - 7-4-2008 at 03:38 PM

And now... Finally... After almost three weeks... Sorry guys. New picture! It's a shitty one because my camera's been on the blink.

Rini - 7-4-2008 at 05:51 PM

My camera is being a tool too! so i'm having trouble getting nice photos with it, i've been using my phone to take photos of my scar. Looking good so far. hope it stays nice and even. is it more raised in your cleavage-ish area?

Kaitie - 7-4-2008 at 05:55 PM

It is a bit, yeah. =P Poo to cameras!

verisimilitude - 7-4-2008 at 06:03 PM

That's looking great, Kaitie :)

Kaitie - 7-4-2008 at 06:53 PM

Thanks! I'm loving it, so happy that I had it done. It's been getting some attention too! Saturday night I was out with a few friends and had the guy behind the bar ask me; "Is that a real tattoo?". I ended up getting into a nice detailed conversation with him about it, and gave Anders' name a bit of a work out, and he said he's pretty interested in getting some work done.

alienboy - 8-4-2008 at 12:33 PM

Hi Kaite
That looks awesome, its great to hear that the piece going well , I hope you find some time to come and see me at
Flesh Impressions so i can have good look at it and take some more photos,

Cheers Anders
