I know, i am very late into this thread.
Onlly fairly new on here.
There needs to be control and regulations in the industry.
After working for a company for 2years in (qld) where they didn't give a crap about age, care or quality of piercing. All they wanted was the money.
Many times the piercers in this company was force to piercing people as low as 12 for oral piercings. Then infants ears as young as 2wks old.
I left them very fast, when i was told i would be fired for not piercings 13yr old boys tongue(never did it)
I now run my own shop. And still dealing with the problems from the other shop ie as of yesterday a mother came in with her 14year old daughter, who
had a dermal done? AT 14?? And on top of it all they wouldn't remove it for her.
So in the end there needs to be control, we need to have set age limit for every store/studio. And the mall piercing studios need to be watch a little
more.

you're right, it is a pretty old thread, but big kudos to you for making responsible decisions and telling that store to shove it. if only more people
working in places like that realised what they were doing wrong!

I think it should be 18+ basically just for the employment and fact that not many employers like piercings.
I have been noticing children with nose piercings, and I think it looks terrible. Most schools except some public schools will NOT let primary school
aged children have nose piercings. I want to send my future children to Catholic schools and they are deifinitely not allowed. Even though I like
piercings, children should not have them in my opinion. Children can't make permanant decisions and the possibility of scarring on the skin (whether
tiny or not) is kind of like child abuse!
Ear piercing in the lobes in welcomed in ANY employment. I was not allowed to have ear piercings at my work, except for once in the ear lobes. That
was it lol. So I left, but you can still see the problem with having piercings and gaining employment.
Then there is the thing also, that teen years maybe are the only time they can get away with having different piercings, during college and casual
work. Once they reach the time where they have to have full-time work and if it's in a Government job or around food etc they most likely can't have
them.
If we all could work in body piercing shops we'd be fine!!!
Whatever goes on, I definitely think that genital, nipple in females, and surface/micodermals, scarring, branding should be for 18 and over.
Ear lobes should be around 8 and up.

I'd be interested to hear what other people think should be the age for dermals/surface. Because a lot of kids (generally 14-15+) want them. Do you
think it should be strictly over 18? I sort of think over 16 with parent present, but on a strictly case by case basis. Not too keen on putting them
in kid's faces though for the scar factor thing, I think I'd only be comfortable doing them on the arms or backs of necks for under 18s.
I know when I was young I didn't think i'd give a sh!t about scarring from piercings, but now I do have scars that I hate on my chest from surface
piercings that didn't work out. And I was 19 then... thought i knew what I was all about.

If there is a chance it needs to be cut out ( and most the time they will ) with either a scalple or a needle then it should be 18 and up. If a nose
piercing debilitates some one they take it out, its differernt when it needs to be cut out and can leave bad scars. My gf has two in her face, got
them when she was 20, she had a manager job at coles ( for a few years ) and they forced her out because of them. She is a 3rd year phyc student at
uni and never had a problem finding another part time job till she starts honours next year.

My first tattoo was done at 18 and I want more done to it because I have changed in the 7 years since... piercings aren't permanant but scars are. At
16 I got ear cartilage done and it didn't heal at all, now I have scars and tiny veins you can see. I did get it done on the other ear when I was 22
but have taken it out.
Depends how easily scars happen, everyone is different.
Yeah I had my nose pierced in 2008 and my employer had me take it out (grrr) :) So I keep clear of facial piercings.
