Stupid Random Questions
K, I know it's a bit s/hit to start a whole new thread for one stupid random question, but I figure other people can use it later for their stupid
random questions.
Anyway, does anyone know how to cook those red hot dog sausages? I've never done it before. Are there any tricks? I've seen people split them and
essentially turn them inside out is all, and I was kind of hoping to avoid that.
So yeah, if you know, feel free to enlighten me.

Yeah - all you do is boil them... and they hardly take any time at all. Stab them a fair bit before hand though... to stop them breaking open. I
either poke them through several times with a fork, or make several slits in the skin with a sharp knife.

Imagine, in theory (as there'd never be a real test to administer for it), that human capacity for learning and remembering could be measured with
absolute certainty in terabytes.
Would that be better or worse than the current flawed IQ and aptitude testing systems that many organisations have in place?

Topaz: Whatever the test, it's always going to be flawed, as every human is slightly different in terms of how they remember things. Ie. Some have
photgraphic memory and can remember details like large numbers, and thousands upon thousands of faces. But is all that extra data that other people
don't usually carry taking up more room left for other things? Can that person remember the same amount of things as anybody else? Or less things, but
more detailed?
Human memory and consciousness is something that fascinates me to no end. When I have the correct amount of beers in me I can and will rant for hours.
Right now though, it's goon o'clock and I'm dressed as a zombie. I'll come back to this..

Cool - I'm pretty into it too, I'm a third year psychology student at USQ. I've hardly ever been fulltime though, so it's taken more than three years
to get to "third year". I'm on a break this semester... have to find another job before the next so I can afford to do a subject then. If I do I'll be
doing "Human Information Processing" next semester : )

Are IQ tests supposed to be a test of retained knowledge though, or ability to interpret knowledge? I'd always assumed it was the latter, is all
(especially given that it's assumed you won't have seen the questions on an IQ test previous to sitting the test).

And off topic, but still a random question: Pox, what's the zombie walk thing that you're doing?

It always gets censoreden messy. Last year Swirly passed out in a public toilet and I peed all over his feet/legs, then I hooked up
with a zombie chick.
The year before, myself and Wayde broke the zombie walk by accidentally leading 300 zombies in the complete wrong direction. So we went to the pub.
I'll post photos tomorrow++

IQ = Intelligence Quotient... they are supposedly a measure of "intelligence". And what exactly that means depends on which school of thought
your referring to, the definitions vary, but we probably have the gist of what intelligence is.
I also mentioned aptitude tests though... which I've had to do God knows how many times in job applications. Just for fun, or within psychology
studies, I find them really interesting. As part of a job application I usually detest them... as they are probably being misused. Having to sit at a
computer for yonks answering questions like "Would you rather make a chair, or sell medication?" and "Would you rather draw a building, or teach
someone to fly a kite?" all in an effort to get a temporary part time job as a checkout chick, before anyone at all has asked me a thing face to face,
is a laughable situation.
But with my original question... I was only supposing what the consequences would be in the entirely impossible event that there was
an absolute measurement of our brain capacity. Eg. you can always argue away IQ test results that are higher or lower than your boss's, co-worker's,
or your partner's... but what if you couldn't? If you could just be plugged into a machine that only takes a few seconds to give you a definate read
out... I was thinking of all the consequences of that.
You really have to suspend reality to think about the question.

I imagine it would create a Gattaca-style situation, where your social worth and full future potential are known instantly, limiting jobs and crushing
self-esteem in an instant.
I've never taken an IQ test before, and I doubt that I ever will. I know that I am very intelligent and capable of great things. I don't want that to
be reduced to a number...

I'm pretty sure the "quotient" part refers to how they divide the results to get your final score, but I could be wrong.
Haha, I looove those tests! I find them absolutely fascinating, although I do agree they're probably being misused. Also, it's decidedly odd that
they use them for jobs as checkout operators, etc. I really question the relevance for jobs that involve repititous, menial labour.
In the event that it were possible to have a machine give some sort of read out (and nobody destroyed it - because I think someone would), I can't
even imagine the trouble it would cause. I'm sure it'd be a pretty typical reaction for something of that magnitude.
You'd have your academics (who wouldn't agree on anything, but would spend hours debating it out to no avail); the media who'd be hyping it from a
million different angles and running a bunch of s/hitty human interest stories; your doomsday cults and religious zealots who'd manage to find some
interpretation of religious material that would either herald it the thing to either save or condemn mankind; the random student protesters who'd
attach it to some agenda; etc, etc, etc...
It sure would be interesting though :D

from what i know bleach (peroxide) removes colour from hair, so it should be able to make red white i think.

Although it makes brown go orange, sometimes. I reckon you should do a test patch somewhere not too obvious (or just cut a bit off first and try to
bleach that).

Straight peroxide will make a great deal of the hair you bleach with it simply split and break off. Buy blonding cream or something similar from Price
Attack or Priceline. Still doesn't have to cost much.

dont try and bleach it yourself, if you want white, you really need someone who knows that theyre doing to do it cos youll probably need a toner or
something

It can, but I wouldn't recommend you try it yourself if you don't know what you're doing. Unless you feel like dealing with undertones, fried hair and
chemical burns that is.

When I'm at the supermarket standing in line in the express lane... and they have more than one check out operating for that one queue... I count the
number of people standing in line, and count the number of checkouts operating, and then divide the number of people by the number of checkouts... in
order to get a more accurate idea of where I am in the queue.
Is that weird?

No way, I do that too! :D
I constantly calculate things in my head, like at the gym I count how many reps I've done, and at the same time I calculate how many I have left and
what fraction I've done and have left, as well as what all the numbers are equal to. I think I explained that badly, but anyway... :P
